Forged, heat-treated increases efficiency by providing a larger striking surface to hit. Broad head design also reduces the chance of the pin slipping from the hand while aligning holes. Angled head and smooth blending of radii helps increase the strength and reduces the danger of chipping during use. Squared-off shoulders, just below the head are forged to provide a surface for applying a wrench to loosen wedged bull pins after alignment. Long, even tapered lay of pin reduces binding and hang-up while driving.
